“Ma!” goes to help in Ebola recovery in Sierra Leone
Ebola may be subsiding in Sierra Leone (SL) but the battle still goes on. Local Charity Alive & Well are shipping “Ma!”, their new well drilling support vehicle, out to Freetown and on to the Pujehun district of Southern SL.
“Ma!”, bought in Berlin, driven back and now fully fitted out, is ready for its gruelling task in the remote jungle villages of SL.
One of Alive & Well’s biggest supporters is Malmesbury School – they have raised many£1,000’s for the charity over the years. Also local MP James Gray has recently been involved helping Luckington based Trustee Kim Findlay negotiate with DfID and the Sierra Leonean Government.
“Ma!” will be at Malmesbury School between 9.00 and 9.30 am, with pupils and teachers involved, on Tuesday the 17th March on its way to Tilbury docks.
Mr Findlay says “ We had to suspend our well sinking operation for a few months during the devastating Ebola outbreak but we are now re launching our programme as clean water and hygiene are even more important to help stop its return”.
Alive & Well have been operating in SL for 5 years and have sunk over 40 wells and even before Ebola, SL had the highest infant mortality rate and the 3rd highest maternal mortality rate. It is a country that vitally needs this kind of support.
